Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) Genome Center is capable of detecting monkeypox virus. The Genome Center has three sets of primers provided by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to detect the virus.

According to Genome Center, the lab is capable of detection of monkeypox virus through real-time-PCR machine using Cyber-Green method. It also has all types of DNA/RNA extraction materials, reagent kits and adequate equipment.

Jessore University of Science and Technology became the first university in Bangladesh to start the Genome Center from April 17, 2020 to identify the coronavirus after the outbreak of COVOD19 in Bangladesh from 8 March 2020 AD. The lab tested samples from Jashore, Jhenaidah, Magura, Narail, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Kushtia, Meherpur and Chuadanga. The quality has been verified by providing samples to CDC, WHO and IEDCR at various time quality control labs.

On June 21, 2021, the WHO delegation inspected the lab and verified the quality of the lab and certified the results of the Genome Center as 100% correct. So far, the results of all the samples sent to IEDCR have been 100% accurate with the Genome Center. About 126,000 samples have been tested in the lab so far. Apart from this, the GENOME Center provided certificates to passengers going abroad after checking the corona virus. Genome Center was able to identify the first delta variant in Bangladesh and unravel its life mystery.

Moreover, this is the second institution in Bangladesh to be able to detect Omicron variants.

It has been informed from the Genome Center that, based on the past experience, the Genome Center also has the capacity to identify monkeypox virus in Bangladesh in the and to identify the type of virus by sequencing from positive samples of monkeypox virus. At the same time, the lab will be able to play an effective role in the detection and research of monkeypox virus if the appropriate authorities of Bangladesh government approve it.
